A much sought after fast-food item in almost all countries in the world is the Pizza. However, not all pizzas are the same. Each country has its own signature pizza and has devised new ways of making pizzas and newer toppings that suit their taste.

In Australia, the barbecued pizza is the favourite while in India and Pakistan, the curried and tandoori pizzas are the ones that sell the fastest.

With regard to pizza toppings, many varied ingredients have been tried out some quite successfully and some with not so much success. Eggs and bacon as a topping is pretty common in Australia.

The Japanese serve bacon as a topping along with potato and mayonnaise and call it 'Mayo Jaga' while the French serve it with onion and fresh cream and call it 'flambe'. In Brazil, be ready to taste for bacon with any other ingredient!

Gourmet pizzas in Australia come with some really exotic toppings like dill, tiger prawns, salmon, emu, shrimp, pineapple, bocconcini, barbecue sauce, and even kangaroo and crocodile! Wood-fired pizzas where pizzas are baked in a ceramic oven fuelled by wood are also in demand.

Even though sea food as a topping is not extremeley popular, there is still enough demand for it. In Japan, you will find toppings of eel and squid on your pizza. And in Russia, herrings, tuna, sardines, mackerel, and salmon are much in demand. In the USA, even though pepperoni is the most common topping, there are also takers for Cajun shrimp.

Russia may be the only nation that serves its pizzas with sunny side up eggs as toppings! In India, purely vegetarian pizzas are as much desired as are non-vegetarian pizzas. You will find 'panneer', a kind of cottage cheese, as a topping on most Indian pizzas. A pizza topped with only onions, olives, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, and 'paneer' can be a perfectly satisfying dish in India.

Minced bacon, beef, and lamb also make favourite toppings in a few parts of the world. Sausages too have a huge following in the USA just slightly less popular than pepperoni.

Brazilians take their pizza making skills very seriously especially wabout the toppings. Their pizzas are usually made with very small quantities of tomato sauce. Don't be taken aback if you find ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream, cooked apples, guava paste, bananas and plantains, on top of your pizza! You migh even find mashed potatos or potato sticks, curried chicken mixed with coconut milk, and grilled sausages, sharing equal standing with regular tomatoes, oregano, ham, olives, and bacon.

But, to savour the original taste of each country's pizza, you will have to eat it in that country as nowhere else will you get the same flavours.
