The Sensory Walk

Typically, we pay attention to one, maybe two at a time, blocking out all the others. While smelling a beautiful bouquet of flowers, for example, we may close our eyes and breathe in the scent only using our nose to take in the experience. When looking at the Grand Canyon we look at the awesome landscape, but dont pay attention to the sounds the birds are making or the other peoples footsteps or the cars in the distance for that matter. We simply use our eyes.

helps to utilize all of the senses at the same time layering each experience on top of one other. It helps to break down the walls between dimensions and experience life more fully. When incorporating all five of the physical senses, we open the door for our sixth sense to be activated. In other words, we kick-start our intuitive sense into gear. The more we practice the more open it becomes. This is easier said than done. We all tend to have tunnel vision, only focusing on the task at hand. Well, its time to change all that.

How does it work? The first thing you want to do is focus on one sensory perception. Sight is the easiest, so I would start there. Pay attention fully to what you see. Dont just look straight ahead. Try to see every single object within your peripheral view. What do you see? Are birds flying to your right? Are there trees straight ahead? Are there a pile of leaves on the ground? Whatever it is you are looking at experience the full range that surrounds you.

When you feel comfortable noticing all that you see, add another sense. What are you listening to? Experience ALL the sounds. Do you hear birds chirping? Are there cars in the distance? Do you hear the wind blowing? Experience the sights and sounds at the same time.

When you are comfortable with these two senses add another. What do you smell? Is there a lavender bush in the distance? Do you smell eucalyptus? Is there trash where you are? Experience the sights, sounds and scents at the same time.

Next, move onto taste. Is there any taste in your mouth? Do you still taste lunch? Do you taste the lavender that you smell? Experience the sights, sounds, scents and tastes at the same time.

Then reach out and touch something on your walk. While on walks in Nature, I often will brush my hands against a flower or leaf, giving it an energetic high-five. You can do the same. How does the leaf feel? Is it smooth or prickly? Experience the sights, sounds, scents, tastes and whatever you touch at the same time.

Finally, see if your other sense that is so often forgotten starts working. Your intuition or sixth sense is a highly powerful sense. With practice all kinds of information can come your way. Pay attention if any messages from the Universe presented themselves while on your walk. They may or may not come today, but they might tomorrow. Messages may also come later too when you are ready to hear them.

Remember, that this exercise is about practicing. Do your best at experiencing all your senses at the same time. You may be able to do it for a few minutes at a time and then your mind wanders. Dont judge yourself. Dont worry that you are doing it wrong. Its all perfect. Its all practice.
